FROM BEYCIK TO YAYLA KUZDERE

Walk Overview / Highlights - An alternative to climbing the summit. Scenic high mountain walk This is a walk for those who are bothered about bagging a mountain but do want to visit the mountain slopwes and high pastures. On this walk you will find much more varied terrain and scenery. The walk starts in forestry land and climbs through pine forest. On the way you may choose to stop at Tekin’s tea house for refreshment and to look as his collection of carved bone jewelery. After leaving Tekin’s the climb gets steeper for a while but you will gradually move into cedar forest. Passing a few meadows and orchards you will enjoy the majesty of the huge lebanon cedar trees with their blue green branches and at times new cones sitting like candles on a christmas tree. The trees are well spaced out and surrounded by dappled shade, a real treat if there’s still some snow about. Eventually you reach the saddle behind the mountain where the conditions underfoot become much more rocky for a while but very soon you are beginning your descent through open cedar forest and onto a high mountain pasture (Yayla). After crossing the yayla you continue descending on narrow trails (some rocky) to a second, smaller yayla where water floods out of the mountain. Here you enter a second cedar forest b ut unlike the one on the ascent this is much more tightly packed and darker and more mysterious. You eventually reach the lower pine forest mixed with beautiful plane trees beside a babbling brook before heading into Yayla Kuzdere. From Beycik To Yayla Kuzdere Transfer Times (Out / In) 35mins / 1hr 20mins Distance 16km Duration 5.5-6hrs Max Height 1,800m Total Ascent 875m Total Descent 800m  Terrain Initially on good, clear, narrow, woodland trails some are steep in places. The transfer back is long but adds to the walk as you get to drive along the gorge below and see the valleys you have walked around from a different perspective. Because of the time taken and the distance and extra charge is made equivalent to the cost of riding the cable car had you done the summit.
